HCAP Visit

After our visit to Hidden Creek Aqua Park on Monday, and identifying locations were motions sensors could be put to use, we were able to request 7 sensors for Nick's facility.

It is an early Christmas present!

Nick- Thank you for helping to identify these locations and for striving to make your facility more green.

Congrats to Leah, Jonathan and Mitch on a Great Site Visit!

It was great to meet with you and Jonathan. The facility checklist was a eye opening experience and a provided a new way to look at our facility operations. I look forward to working toward some of those goals we set this upcoming year.

Thanks

Mitch

Sustainability Pays

Great FAQs about Geothermal Energy

Pat Long shared this link from Ball State University.   A geothermal system will be installed at the new interpretive center and will be featured in interpretive signage about sustainable practices on the site.

water bottles are bad!

Check out this article and the cool graphs that show just how much of a difference reusable waterbottles make!

Welcome to the Park District of Highland Park's

Green Team Initiatives!

Check here for news about green initiatives in our District and in our world! Be sure to check out (and add to) our Green Resources links below.

First Team Meeting is October 24th at 1030 am. Chris Wilsman will host a tour of the newly renovated Deer Creek facility. We will update our Deer Creek Green Facility checklist with new initiatives since we last met *gasp* in 2009.

Seems we've reverted back to old habits. Good to talk about this at our first mtg.

Reducing Plastics

Community Resident Marjie Ettlinger has asked that the District look into reducing use of disposable water bottles (plastic) in our facilities.  As some of you will remember, that was one of the initiatives of our last Green Team effort.   Among our achievements:  AYSO purchased reusable water bottles for its members; Park Board meetings started having water pitchers on hand (as did Heller Nature Center functions); District summer camps provided reusable bottles and "green" bag lunches.   Ideas?
